i wont say this is my "favorite" for the year because its only March, but this is definitely my favorite for Quarter 1 of 2025.
this is the best book I have read so far this year! i love the story line and the plot.
i love the set up, and how they meet, how they actually already know each other. that makes it a little less creepy.
the brad storyline is just, like whoa, wasnt expecting that at all but. i wasnt expecting him to be a full on k.ill3r... but after the "investigation" and hes totally a cereal un-aliver - so he deserved what he got, but a little anti-climatic.
i genuinely appreciate that it had a story line and not just smut smut smut. the inner monologues and the banter are my favorite! it seemed so realistic.

🌶 🌶🌶🌶🌶 so good! But it's part of a series and leaves on a cliff hanger. I know there were more books but I thought it was like each was a HEA and about a different person from the book-universe.
Anyway very steamy and spicy. Lots of scenes.

4 Bikers for the Doctor by Raven Blaire
My rating: 1 of 5 stars
for starters i listened to the audio book. at this point in time, it was narrated by an AI. and it reads terribly. hopefully they have some one read the book and replace the ai narration version.
it honestly sounded so comical to listen to an ai try pronouncing certain words. emphasis was given at the wrong syllables or just pronounced wrong entirely.
there wasnt a female and male voice for the narration. so sometimes it was hard to tell "who" was speaking because there was not pause between sentences. it sounded like a big run on sentence most of the time.
the story line wasnt that much better. it sounded like i went to copilot and asked for a story and was given an AI generated story. parts of the book just sounded weird, or didnt make sense and context wasnt given. it also didnt feel real. like the plot seemed weak and unrealistic.
also the clinic at the end seemed super unrealistic.

NOTES>Check your trigger warnings. ARC Review. probably spoilers. read at your own risk.
✅Brothers best friend. I am here for it.
✅Touch her and perish. i am here for it. these are like my FAVS.
✅incredible Schmex scenes ... while flying. yes please. (theres a tail scene too. )
Killian from the beginning "and yet id break every rule for you" and "if i find you with a body, i'll bury it for you" (heart swoon- i honestly knew from the very second those words flew out of his mouth he was already done for.) he quiet literally is laying his heart and his loyalty down at her feet... her blindness is infuriating throughout the whole book, until the very end "we were so stupid." (yes eve, yes you were.) Eve constantly thinks that Killian is only there because her "brother/uncle" told him to follow her and babysit, when so clearly that is not the case ... and Eve's final recognition of "you are the reason they call me the widow-witch" like, chefs kiss.
Killian has been pining for her for his whole "free" life and i am obsessed with him. he's been dropping hints, and scenting his desire towards her for years. like when i picture Killian in my head, he has that diabolical, unhinged smile that quirks up and reaches his eyes like "oh you think that was crazy, just wait there's more".
there are so many pieces of the story that i want to talk about, but im afraid it would spoil to much of it!
however i think this is the first time i read "knotting" with a demon. so that was interesting.. not mad about it at all though. i loved his playfulness during the "after glow stage" like when she wakes up. he was so happy, and she had to go and screw it up again thinking that she forced him into something he didnt want. FTLOG Eve stahp! he likes you, he REALLY likes you.
also: the coven they go to, super weird. i got "cult" vibes from the beginning. sunshine boy just seemed off, and not concerned about the hunters at all, and that felt weird.. (in hindsight makes perfect sense). and the elder... yuck, like instant dislike. super pushy, culty, i'll only help you if you join us. like what. no thanks.
and some really big action spoilers that i wont mention insert here(my kindle was like 50 min left of the book - my anxiety was overflowing with you better wrap this up in nice little HEA for me or im gonna be upset!!!)..... but the way that scene ends, and her and killian leave together.. nice save. i like that.
CONS:
*the hellcat, few things i didn't like... i get it - she's a cat, and the snooty-patooty behavior that all cats have, nailed that perfectly..... but having to reiterate that the cats fluffball tail had a hidden stinger in it. honestly felt like forced foreshadowing, one or two hints, sure no problem, but it felt like it was mentioned 3-5 times (i didn't honestly count) in a matter of a couple pages felt really forced.
*some of the writing, or Eve's inner monologue, sometimes was hard to interpret. is she saying this out loud, or was this in her head.. maybe it was just me, but i had to re-read some sections to understand the "flow" of the conversation and internally in my head as i was reading was "ok this makes more sense if she said "this section" in her head.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book way more than i honestly expected. i love the "little mouse" nickname althought i dont think it ever went into detail about how she got the nickname, except a little squeak she made... but i thought she did that after the nickname for the first time. .. any way thats not really important.
the bad guy from the beginning "fenton" (spell check, i listed to the audio so idk), he was just a sleezeball from the start and i had expectations of him being involved, but i didnt expect the "coven leader" to be involved.
and whats with this supposed best friend who sold her out for her crush. and was acting jealous and "wishy-washy" from the start. idk just something about that didn't set right... your supposed best friend is usually more understanding and open to at least listening to your side of the story... i guess towards the end it comes out that she was never really a friend, just took pity on the orphan girl.... but then tries to attack her behind her back, and then pleads for mercy when she is caught trying to attack from behind... like the most cagey, two faced, sleeze-ball of a humanoid there ever was. she is worse than the Fenton IMO.
not particularly fond of the "your my mate" after only a few days.... so i completely appreciated the FMC resistance and questioning "what happens if we don't work out, then what happens".

this was my first MMF, i normally read/listen to MFM where she gets all the love, but i actually thoroughly enjoyed this. it did take me by surprise and wasnt expecting it.
they sure dove right in and just had all the 🌶️, but thats what i was looking for so i liked it.
there wasnt really any world building, it was too short of a book and the story line of how they all ended up in the same place was enough.
i actually really enjoyed the "realness" of it. they all still work, they all still had jobs to tend to and then come home.

Most of the "together spice" was off script and happened behind closed doors.. u til the very end.
It also seemed like it took half the book to even get to a little sprinkle of spice.
However I did appreciate the realism of the jealousy between the 4 guys and it being something new that they had never tried before.

Well, if I had paid attention when I purchased on audible that it was a series... I probably wouldn't have bought it simply because I don't like cliffhanger books... and this book is exactly why I don't like cliffhanger books. It's such a cliffhanger with so many open-ended questions that could trail off in so many different ways. the "bad witch" was unexpected... . However,pieces of info could have been deduced if you were the type to "read too far between the lines" so that was an interesting plot twist. The "love triangle" that was forming and then just as quickly squashed by an unforeseen death blew a hole in that theory as well. I am sad that he died, but I love that he was committed to both her and his brother literally to his death. looking forward to book 2 so I can get some answers.

im not really sure how i feel about this book. super nice that the estranged "uncle" let her come stay with him. not surprised there was a heated moment there that obviously led to something more. it wasnt her real uncle so that doesnt bother me at all. its almost liek "well i had one might as well have the rest of them also" mentality and then went to her "not really related" cousins. theyre both horn dogs. but theyre early 20's so thats completely expected.
THE TRAUMA of the older one. my heart. reading books or even watching movies that has anything to do with children instantly shatters me now that ive have kids of my own. my mind and my heart were just IN PIECES.
still super confused on how you can "connect" with someone who never speaks.... but it happened, and surprisingly it was what he needed in the end to want to speak again... and then go on to have a child of his own. like full circle redemption. love that for him.
but family dinner, or ANY family occasion has to be weirddddddd.
overall i didnt hate the book but i wouldnt re-read it.

I am on the border line of wanting to give this book ZERO stars for those last two chapters! I am enraged! skipped straight from sad to enraged. its like someone ripped the last couple pages from the book. HATE HATE HATE, LOATHE ENTIRELY.
the accent was SUPER hard to get passed for me in the very beginning. but it finally grew on me. and is very fitting for the character.
i was instantly suspicious of this Guild thing, and Bellamy??(i listened to the audio so I'm not sure of name spellings).... and his timing of appearing in her life. I kind of figured he was at fault, maybe not by his hand, but definitely apart of it - especially for the bloodshed, but not drank.
not really sure how Dahlia didn't put the pieces together sooner.

the most violence was a parking lot brawl and a bloody nose. but a most definitely a well deserved blow to the face. Trent is a giant heaping d-bag and how logan didn't know how trashy his "since childhood" friend was, is honestly very surprising.
but I'm glad it ended the way it did for MJ and Logan.
i also didn't read any of the other stories before reading this one. Honestly, not sure how this one was recommended to me with out the whole series being recommended also.
however i believe they are all part of the same small town universe, but not necessary to read all to understand. this one by its self wrapped up everything. and i didn't end with any cliff hanger type questions.

meh. the story is just blah. and some of the details seem forced in described the world. the whole plot of the book is in the last bit.
first book: dad owes money to mafia, dad sells daughter ( and her V) to recover his debts.
mafia brothers are going to auction her off.
she runs away at the last minute before going back, to save her sister. ( unbeknownst to her, sister not really in danger, and the mafia brothers are keeping her for themselves)
second book: big scary bad guy that didnt win the auction, makes a scene through out the book, and finally kidnaps her, tortures her, and drops her at the brothers door.
mafia brothers are plotting how to separate this person permanently but doing so in a way that doesnt have backlash.

(spoilers) MEH. when I think of a "dark Peter Pan retelling" I still expected magic, fairies, and flying. What I wasn't expecting was a "normal world" with a mafia-esque spin on things and just using the key names in the story. (Tiger Lily, The Lagoon, Jolly Roger, Michael(being used as a last name instead of a brother)
I did like how the different names were incorporated into the story. Tiger lily being the name of the boat. and the jolly roger being the name of the bar. however, you would think the JR would be the name of the boat.... but i guess that is one of those... "its too similar so let me change it up type of things" but again. MEH.
Hook is under-lord/mafia boss/ hitman whatever you wanna call him, and his opposing counter part being "peter pan". key match point.
Wendy only had one sibling, not 2. (not a deal breaker but moving on) --that one sibling, being the half-sibling to Hook... very very surprised. But that also makes sense now on why Peter killed Hooks' parents in the end. ... otherwise throughout the whole story, you are left wondering what kind of business deal went so bad, that peter killed them for what appears to be "no reason"
The plot twist at the end with SMEE being The Croc 2.0 .... that fact actually surprised me. so kudos for that. even when he was on the boat and threw the first watch overboard, you are kind of left with "Well that was weird and very suspicious" but I still didn't expect him to be THE bad guy.... I just expected him to be another pawn. Also one of Hook's employees, Starkey, INSTANTLY thought that he was part of the conspiracy when he shoots the guy that Hook is interrogating and says "HIS FINGER SLIPPED"... how retarded is Hook to fall for that... and then continues to use him as a bodyguard, or assistant.? just dumb.
Wendy's foreshadowing of Stockholm syndrome. ... clever but too obvious... partly because I knew what kind of book I was reading and that was expected.... but to have the characters actually acknowledge that... I liked that part.
Also, plot hole, HOW did Wendy get her and Hook back to the club to the club doctor, if she was UNCONSCIOUS when she arrived at said cave and had no idea where she was or how she got there.... and then HOOK was unconscious when arriving to the club.? who helped them!

Hard to finish. Zero spice. Not really sure how or why this book.was recommended to me.
Friends to lovers... veryyyy slowly.
Some kissing but all smhegs is "between the lines" ...
And the main character is severly asthmatic so a wrong breeze and he goes into an attack.... so there's nothing exciting going on behind closed doors. Just plain vanilla.
Again no idea why this book was recommended to me. This has none of my preferred tropes.
It was a struggle to.finish because I kept hoping for something exciting to happen.

i like the beginning of the story how there is a "meet-cute" at the airport. he seems fixated on her, and she honestly doesnt remember the encounter at all. something she says sticks with him because its something his mom use to say.
if they could have just left it at that then i think i would have liked the book better. the whole "fate" thing, and then his mom and her mom were best friends and they actually knew each other as babies is idk,... too weird for me... too "coincidence" for me.
for her to have THAT much of her past be non existent because of a horrible accident. and then magically get a piece back after meeting your boyfriends mom... like thats just to "hocus pocus" for me.
i like magicy books dont get me wrong, but i wasnt expecting this book to be "fated mate" type energy.

almost 2 stars** there should be a paranormal tag on this book**
her crystals and her auras and she "sees things"... its talked about too much and too often to be called "a gut feeling" -- i still liked the book overall, but this bordered on giving it a 2 star just because i didn't start this book expecting or wanting paranormal vibes, and thats what i got.
i wouldnt call this a TW: but there is a surprise pregnancy. Im not really a fan of those types of books so if your not either, stop here. -- "chart tracking" is only reliable if you actually chart like your suppose to, so big life events that cause you to "get distracted" obviously you are not doing a very good at "tracking" so obviously that's what's gonna happen.
2 on the violence because there is a fist fight, blood, and arson. no body was killed, but definitely harmed.
uhm. age gap aside, 17 times in one day. i call absolute BOLOGNE! thats incredibly unrealistic unless hes a one-pumper. and that much... stuff.... inside is going to through off the micro-biome, and PH balance and cause some other issues.
not to mention how DEHYDRATED you would be.
now lets through in a 20 year age gap... i dont think so. also OW. with as big as he is described to be, that many times would hurt something! a lot of things..

this was a very cute office / workplace "romance" where two people mistook their shared "disdain" for each other as hatred. in reality, that young playground "pull the little girls pig tails and picks on her because he likes her" type vibe, but as adults. its twisted type of i dont know what to call this obsession so they call it hate but it was never hate.
one flaw, when the FMC is reminscing about the past she claims that the MMC calls her "white trailer trash"... but then there is no resolution, or "hey i hated you because of this, and then the apology" .... so i felt like that one was left unresolved.
me personally, that one would be a hard one to "get over" if it was never talked about and resolved. so i feel like there should have been some clarification on that.
the antagonist that the two leads "team up against"... i forgot his name already, but his character was also lacking. i feel like there should have been some underlying reason as to why he was the way he was. was it revenge? was it also a misguided obsession to pick on her that grew because it wasnt mutual? was it just because hes a dirtbag ? what was his motive for doing what he did? yea there was 20k on the line, but he was acting shady and conniving long before the money was brought into it as a prize. the money just seemed like an "extra incentive" to raise the stakes.
also kinda disappointed that he, the MMC, wasnt able to prove it was him, the antagonist, about the picture. great, he caught him for something else- but thats not really the point. the point was the picture. i mean obviously she shouldnt have done what she did while at a work function, neither should the MMC have done it either, but the fact that only she got in trouble for it.... and they werent able to "repair" that part of her life.
also WHO DOESNT LOCK THEIR PHONE THESE DAYS! thats incredibly unrealistic.

to start, its not what i expected. but i think that was coming from the "slash or pass" expectations of anticipating more gore.
i loved and appreciated how daisy and gatsby began. bringing a modern version of "meeting online" to the old story.
the OG TGG and this book have VERY similar stories, obviously, but Ty still managed to make it completely hers.
again it didnt have the horror i expected it to be. looking back, i guess i would have expected more detailed about WHAT was done to the special dinner guest... not gonna lie, the "extra party" upstairs was a blindside. i thought it was being served to the unknowningly "downstairs" party guest. i totally expected the "eat the rich" to be takin in full comedy aspect of tricking the rich into eating the rich. i feel like that was a missed opportunity.
THE TRAUMA unloaded. yikes. poor emile for suffering in such a way, i cant fathom that kind of cruelty from his own mother. like some people dont deserve to reproduce. and all those women who participated. "im only a monster because you created me" or something like that. but still. like even to the very end they thought they did nothing wrong.
and in homage to the OG, "gatsby" still died but emile and shiloh live on. happy ending.
i still have questions tho. we learn what happens to the fiance in the end, and gatsby pays for a cover up. but realistically the little girl would have questions, right? like Tuth, just says i'll take her. love that, but i feel like it was tied up in a pretty little bow to much, and it doesnt really make sense. shes a 6yr old little girl that technically lost her dad, and her "mom" turned into an "aunt" and her new adoptive parents are strangers to her... and no one raised any questions about this?
anyway, i still thoroughly enjoyed the book.

When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
idk how my dumbself keeps picking books that are unfinished series. im enraged at myself for not being able to read the next book. i hate cliff hangers yet i continue to do this to myself.
this book honestly took me a while and few different attempts to get started and interested in the book, the first few chapters, are underwhelming. but this book is so worth it. it takes almost the first half of the book to get invested.... and the FMC is very irritating. the constant berating of her self of not being good enough for anyones love or affection. hate that.
im honestly not a fan of the Multiple points of view... as in more than two. normally its the FMC and the MMC, but you have a few chapters that are 2 or 3 other female side characters, and a male side character. however they are important to the story... so they are necessary im just not use to having so many different POVs in a book.
also, MMC, chefs kiss. and his "moonbeam"... his heart for her, and he constantly just lays his heart at her feet and she just tramples it over and over and he continues to try and save her.
and did this book just end with the secret love child being in a cage, and NEE returning to her! im crying. thats going to break the FMC even more when that truth is revealed.
book 2 better be the end of the series. i need closure.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3⭐️: Good: Enjoyable read with some flaws.
2 🫑: Low Heat: Some romantic scenes, but nothing explicit.
1🔪: Mild: Little to no violence or disturbing content. Suitable for most readers. 2🔪: Moderate: mild violence or unsettling, but not too graphic.
it started out spicy and seductive and at first it started out sounding like the FMC was just Ho'ing it out. and by shear happenstance her mate walks into a bar. they have 1 super crazy lust filled night together.
..."fate" right.... kidding. he leaves in the middle of the night. he rejects her. its not a spoiler if its in the title.
meets a witch, told that her mate(s) are going to be the end to civilization.
she then spends the next few years hunting him down and becoming a rogue shifter herself, living a nomad life. self imposed duty to eliminate them to save the world.
low and behold, she lets her guard down because she's weary from her long treacherous journey looking for her mate(s)..... dun dun dun... she stops at a little diner/bar place to grab some food and a drink... guess who happens to walk into the same bar... again.. like deja vu.
fine, its kismet or whatever. the "bar" is their thing.
then having mate#2, creepy mccreeperston, sneaking into her bedroom to watch her sleep or invade her dreams somehow, and by default, luring the shadows into her room.
like if you didn't want her involved then WHY DID YOU GO INTO HER ROOM? --- but then we wouldn't have the whole premise of the book would we?
she gets poisoned, so does he, and now her, and her mate(s) set off TOGETHER to find the antidote and save each other. all while having the underlying understanding that as soon as they get the antidote, its back to hating each other and being against each other.
Then she has relations with mate #3, (shes still poisoned by the way and has crippling attacks) and then the next day, maybe not even 24 hrs later, find cure, drink cure.
Ta-da....nope just kidding... they SPIKE HER CURE DRINK with another potion that helps them magically sever their mate bond.
i don't even know what to say to that.
im not sure what im looking for, like obviously mor spice, but HOW if all of them just SHADOW SMOKED OUT OF THERE... leaving her stranded in the forest.
the story still has me holding out hoping for something more in book 2. if things dont pick up and become more interesting, like in the first few chapters of book 2 , this will be a dead series to me.
the series seems weird. not a fan of the cliff hangers. if i had stumbled on these books before it was a completed series and had to wait between books... not worth it to me. its actually infuriating where these cliff hangers are at.
theres some intimacy, but not a ton. it seems more like that slow-burn, "learn-to-love because youre forced to be in each others company and its easier to have relations than to pretend to hate" type thing.
honestly, by now, i feel like they should figure out a way for her to defend her self against the "shadows" if theyre going to keep attacking her, and shes completely defensely against them right now.
and "duck cake" that cliff hanger. that was rude. 10/10 hate the series now. im only reading the next book to see if he lives. if not, thats gonna be a DNF.
there is some fighting, and scrapes, but nothing gory and disturbing.
took awhile to finish the book. kind of lost interest for a bit, but then i was like, im almost done with the series, go ahead and get it over with.
it ends with a HEA. and a "maybe baby" ... they were still in the "trying" phase. IYKYK what i mean.
i feel like the 4 books dragged on and on , and then suddenly, boom bam, end of book. wrapped up all nice and perfect.
also would have liked it better if there were more "together" scenes. maybe like her and two or all 3. it seemed more 1 vs1 or taking turns, but not "together" if that makes sense.
anyway. this will probably be a book(series) that doesnt hold or stick in my mind, and it will pop back up on my FYP and i'll be like "oo that sounds good" and then come back here and put it on my " to read" only to realize its already "been there read that" - then be "welp never mind then" moving on down the list to the next.
3⭐️: Good: Enjoyable read with some flaws.
2 🫑: Low Heat: Some romantic scenes, but nothing explicit.
1🔪: Mild: Little to no violence or disturbing content. Suitable for most readers.
cute quick read. honestly liked how the MMC and MFC started out already knowing each other and there wasnt this long drawn out meet-cute.
i feel like there could have been more development on how or what exactly happened for them to be cursed. but given that i read the book in a day, i think that shows that its not a super long book so there wasnt really time to delve to far deep into everything.
i personally would have liked a more detailed explanation on who the bad guy was, and how the cat/ alex came to be entrapped by the bad guy, and then how the MFC seemed to know the cat before he was a cat. like obviously there is more to the story there, but i feel like im missing something.
but i liked story line, i think it could be improved had the book been a longer more detailed version. this honestly seemed like a rough draft of something that was in the beginning stages of production and not about to be released already.
4⭐️: Very Good: Really liked the book, with minor issues.
3 🌶️: Medium Heat: Several intimate scenes, moderately explicit.
1🔪: Mild: Little to no violence or disturbing content. Suitable for most readers.
theres some bar fighting, hockey brawl, i think thres a bloody nose, and a bleeding leg wound from a ice skate.
MMC is conflicted due to a promise he made to his mom when he was a child apparently and desperately doesnt want to end up like his divorced parents so he thinks hes not allowed to love.
FMC super inexperienced and doesnt realize how much of a flirt she is or others are to her, she thinks people are just being nice. bless her heart.
small case of amnesia at the end but it resolves itself.
and a surprise pregnancy at the end.
Possessive Mafia Vows: An Enemies To Lovers Dark Mafia Romance by Vivy Skys
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
3⭐️: Good: Enjoyable read with some flaws.
3 🌶️: Medium Heat: Several intimate scenes, moderately explicit.
3🔪: Intermediate: Noticeable violence or dark themes. Contains some graphic scenes and potential triggers.
writing had some flaws, pretty sure there were 3 or 4 paragraphs that duplicated. so while reading i was like "wait, what? i just read that - then thought i accidentally scrolled back up (kindle) and had to double check myself, but nope it repeated itself.
a few times, there were sentences that didnt make sense, like "they were" and "they weren't" changes the entire context of the sentence right.??
aside from grammatical errors, i liked the storyline. it kept me on my toes, it was very hard to figure out how everyone was connected for awhile. but it still left some holes that i want filled. like how the russian mafia sought after the doctor. or how the russians sought after the father.... like what perfect events had to align BEFORE the accident that set things in motion for all of this to align perfectly.
gotta hand it to the russians, they played the long game on this one.
the father and the doctor give me the absolute heeby-geebies. WHY would you not question the sudden changed from "professional" doctor patient relationship to whatever this guy was trying?
and WHY on gods green earth, if you havent spoken to someone in 20 years, after he ASSAULTED your mother and threatened her life, would you think, YEA LETS GO TO YOUR HOUSE THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT IDEA, IM SAFE WITH YOU. like.... girl,.... a GUTTER, ON FIRE, is literally better.
i kinda hate her for her naivety. sure you can have some trauma, but dont be an idiot about it. we dont give people like that the "benefit of the doubt".
also, i dont really call this an "enemies to lovers".... they werent enemies. they were just strangers. met at a party, things went horribly wrong, and we he finally came back to the country, they started being inserted into one anothers lives again.
but the spice was nice. also, ends on an HEA.
probably wont invest in the rest of the series unless they individually trigger, and show up on my FB or TT FYPs and catch my interest....
(spoilers if you can read between the lines and pick up on things easily)
whew! um. that was a good book. I'm a little speechless. check your trigger pages.. i read it and honestly still was not prepared. (part due to being mid-postpartum... so i probably shouldn't have read a book about child trafficking. -yikes) it all hit a little to close to home.
most "dark romance" books seem a little "far fetched" to me, but this one is very realistic to me. I kind of love that and kind of hate it at the same time.
Eden's parents, dad specifically, WOW. to think that there are people in the world who are like this IRL is absolutely terrifying. the way eric said "we had to teach her her place" sounds like her dad helped plot/plan the grape of his own daughter. like what in the actual duckery is that! i could not even fathom hurting any child, or worse my own children. like the sick depravity and brainwashing of this secret society , thats apparently not so secret is just an abomination. also sidebar - didnt he get shot in the leg, in the artery, how did he live through that ?
edens mother makes me ill - how could you know and willingly allow something to happen to your own children. you later learn that she was actually apart of it, when she was a child/teen and was purchased but still, would you not try to do better for your own kids and not lead them into the life you were given? just dumbfounded in that.
the brother - ugh. he was mean to his sister simply because he didnt want daddy looking in his direction anymore and wanted the focus back on his sister. honestly, serves him right to find out about what happened to his sister the way he did. pure shellshock. but i like that it brought them back together as siblings to work together instead of against each other. silver lining i guess?
luca - that was a plot twist. however i was very skeptical and suspicious of him after he said "they were right about you". like WHO HAD HE BEEN TALKING TO! it seemed like he wasnt that new to town since he had friends, and sports, but he never went to church so how did he/ his parents get involved so expensively. i thought it was a sweet encounter at first, but everything around eden and luca was a twist at the end. really didnt expect that or see that coming.
Eden - the anguish of her life thus far is heart-breaking and gut-wrenching. everyone always thinks shes a liar, or a sloot when shes actualy not, and everyone else is just wearing rose colored glasses. i think i would have ran away also, but i wouldnt have gone home. im glad she did, she met roman, but IRL... the analogy in my head is the frog jumping out of the frying pan into the fire, and then jumping back into frying pan and deciding thats safer. like yikes, thats weird level of stockholm syndrome.
roman - oh roman. him and his demons. for one, the page art thats included is totally off. hes meant to be 29 in the book, the art he looks 18. for someone whos been to war, and "seen things" needs to be a little more "lived in" maybe some face wrinkles, and eyes that look like they have demons hiding behind the surface, filled out more instead of a scrawny jawline. the art looks like hes barely hit puberty so that was uncomfortable. it also looks like it was AI created, so the tattoos that are described, are different on every picture. that was annoying but i guess mostly irrelevant.
the way he battles and torements himself, understandably for the vow he mad to the church. but doesnt that kind of all go out the window when you discover whats happening IN YOUR CHURCH? just me.
also, a little to hot headed and "touch her and d1e" vibes for me. kinda stalkerish, and seems completely against the expected "character" of a priest. but im not catholic so i could be wrong.
kevin- hes "retiring early" to go to whatever city. later we find out that he was hand selecting more children. im disgusted. but how has he done this with the vatican or whoever sends new priest to the church when he "leaves".... and then "no just kidding" and comes back every year? is the main vatican in on the whole thing to! like what in the pinacolada is going on here!?
Echo- thank god for echo. that is all. MVP. small part, few lines, most impactful in the main story.
Hannah - bless her teeny tiny little heart. to be a child, and to experience that, and still be full of bounce and joy at the end, and the wonder of being reunited to her parents.
ultimately, the spice was delicious between eden and roman. i loved that entirely. the forbidden love, the pushback between the two, trying not to get caught, but doing things in broad daylight at the coffee shop, stolen moments whenever possible. love that.
hated the direction "plot" of the rest of the book. but super thankful for the HEA on both story lines.
3⭐️:average. - Not mind blowing but didn't hate.
5 🌶️: lots of scenes, a few kinks, check your TW page.
i just feel like the character building wasnt there.
MMC: im bound to an oath, i like to have sex now that i can have it again, this one is the best one ive ever had im obsessed, and i occasionaly have to kill people
FMC: i have no freedom to do what i want, so let me take this vow to be with a guy who doesnt really want me and submit to him and that somehow gives me my freedom back.
at one point like more than half way through the book they get married.... basically as a revenge tactic, and she says something to the point of, they had never kissed before. ALLLLL of the spices scenes thus far and not a single kiss, just a bunch of hate spice basically.
the plot twist at the end is nice, and surprising but still incredibly suspicious. why does this person have so much sway in the lord cult? how does she have so much reach?
it seemed more ogling then spicy. but i liked the story. it was very hot and cold for their reactions towards each other. and that seemed to repeate to frequently for me. like I get it, youre enemies-to-lovers. your not supposed to like each other, but you do, but you dont, but you do, but you dont, but you do. and then finally, i ugess to bring the book closer, it was just , ok i surrender.. and then the epilogue, oh hey my brother is coming, just so nonchalant. eh. probably wont read the rest of the series. i like that it was a HEA, even though its part of a series.
the character building was a little rocky for me, it was kind of hard to keep some of the characters in line and remember their stories, and remember allegiances.
99.9% of the spice was in the dream world. but still decent spice. the fact that what happened in dream world happened in real life is hilarious. especially the suit jacket in the helicopter. i would die of embarrassment, but the cousin played it off so well, like "no wonder were no closer to finding him".
but the MFC is, DUMBBBB like why on earth would she ever trust that girl at the end of the book. like how do you just completely turn a blind eye to her and invite her in to your room because she brought you a piece offering of some kind of seafood pasta for dinner... after earlier in the book she specifically makes the comment about LOVEING the ONE thing that you are ALLERGIC too. you and her already despise each other throughout the whole book and now she suddenly wants to be besties. like wheres "the red flag guy" from instagram at thats running around with a giant red flag. that was a huge pet peeve of mine in this book. but it was at the end so i pushed forward and finished.
4.9⭐ for the shitty cliffhanger.
4🌶️ it wasnt just dripping in smutty-ness, and not bdsm or anything, but the scenes that were there.... very theatric and climatic.
that ending was trash. 10/10 hate that. it wasnt even a good cliff hanger. (possible spoiler by suggested theory-if you can "read between the lines" then you'll probably catch on)
Dain: i was legitimately surprised about Dain, and his Epiphany, and his "change of heart". for the sake of the character, i think hes still struggling with it internally. but i have no idea if there will be any further "story building" around that.
brennan: "i mean this with every fiber of my body, we deny your offer of peace and happily accept war"... ooof. that was a good line. i love that. and who hes talking to.... chefs kiss. love that!
jack barlowe: what in tarnation?! not only HOW, but WHY. why did the healer, save him, only to find the truth, and then ALLOW him to live, and RETURN TO CLASS LIKE NOTHING WAS EFFING WRONG!!!! thats a plot hole to me. just doesnt make sense.
Violet: the constant "need" to have all the answers.. its very off putting.. however she is super smart to finally put the puzzle pieces together.
andarna: sweet little andarna saves the day. .... but is she like a chameleon dragon? what science is this? and i feel like i should have caught on to this sooner but it makes sense.... wait, are dragons able to hear and listen to whats going on while inside the egg, before they even hatch? that starts a whole new theory.?
xaden: my poor heart, his declaration of love for her, and then only to be left on this cliff hanger like this. honestly makes me not want to read Onyx Storm.
